In the corrupt city of Calcutta where crooked cops reign and justice fails, a masked online vigilante seeks justice for the elderly and gullible.
Jim Browning is a real life internet superhero who cracks down on online scammers and cybercrime who appear to be predominantly based in Calcutta, India.
The Refund Scam
In what is known as the “Refund Scam”, victims are baited into installing remote access software on their computers and logging into their online banking.
The attacker can then control their computer and uses the developer tools within the browser app (Ctrl+Shift+I) to alter how the html text is displayed on screen (should the victim simply refresh the page (F5 / Ctrl+R) this trick would be undone!).
The attacker then fakes an accidental bank transfer and manipulates the victim to return the “accidental” transaction and when doing so they are in fact transitioning their own money!
This is only the first attack, however. Once the attacker has remote access to their personal computer they try to glean as much sensitive information as possible so they can continue to scam and manipulate the victim into sending more money.
The Digital Caped Crusader
Jim Browning allows himself to be attacked to lure the scammer into his virtual machine where he can reroute the remote access control so that he too can see the screen and control the computer of the attacker!
He monitors their movements to learn their scams and warns banks of spurious transfers. He has even been able to scam scammers! See the video below.
If only Jim would speak in a deep Batman like voice when finally confronting these scammers, he would be nothing short of a real life superhero.
A Need For Justice
Seeing people be scammed of their money and the vile qualities of the scammers as they manipulate their elderly or gullible victims draws a deep need for justice from within.
This exposes everyone’s innate commitment to truth and justice. We all know morality because we are created in God’s image. This knowledge, according to the Bible, is to condemn our own evil actions so that we would seek refuge in God who has sent his Son to pay for our crimes (Romans 2:14-16).
For the scammers that get away with their crimes, they soon will face God on the day of judgement and give an account for every idle deed and word (Matthew 12:35-37, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
As a result, God is the ultimate Superhero who is content to silently monitor the evil actions of humanity and finally reveal His justice to the entire world (Revelation 1:1, Revelation 21:6-8).
Don’t Be Fooled
It is important that you inform those in your life who might be targeted by these scammers while praying that righteousness will be exalted in India through the Gospel (Proverbs 14:34).
